Recently, I was asked by Young Republic to create some artwork for their upcoming official launch and after working collaboratively with the Young Republic team and thrashing out some ideas together the little bird & bunting was the winner.

Young Republic Night Market

I received my invitation just the other day in my inbox inviting me to the Young Republic official launch party. It’s in Sydney on the 12th of July and unfortunately, I won’t be able to go because it’s in Sydney and I’m here in Adelaide with work to go to the next day. It’s all good though. I know it’ll be a fantastic night and I’m really looking forward to seeing photos of the event afterwards. I’m just really thrilled to have been asked to create something for this exciting new venture.

Adelaide Joomla User Group May 2011Well hello there! This here is my first official post on the Alltraders Blog. You may call me Eli (and that's pronounced ee-lahy, by the way).

OK, so, down to business. Last week, on Tuesday the 17th at around 7pm to be precise, I did a little bit of a talk on Joomla! 1.6 template creation and I'm glad that people seemed to enjoy it! Here I am just letting you know, whether you were there or not that I have put up a little recap of what I went through on my Blog.

Check it out here: Joomla! 1.6 Template Resources

Are you a Facebook Page admin? Stumped why the "Use Facebook as ..." function doesn't allow you to post and comment on your pages as yourself? Want to make a personal opinion on your company or organisation's Facebook page but are an administrator of that page?

use-facebook-as

The feature is indeed there, and the default to always comment and post as the page is set for privacy, such that any official posts can't link to the individual's personal profile. However, differentiation is sometimes important to denote whether the comments, posts or any opinions made on the page are representative of the individual, or the company or organisation that the page represents.

So, how do I comment on a Facebook page as myself?

Well not quite cheesecake, but pavlova was the key award of choice as our newest Alltraders team member BJ recently celebrated receiving his Official Australian Citizenship.

Work stopped for a moment to mark the occasion and hear BJ's speech on his impressive history, followed by the presentation to Birendra of a large pavlova (from the Cheesecake Shop), together with perhaps the most iconic edible Australiana goodies - a platter of Vegemite. One of our managers, Vic presented BJ with the goods, which were thoroughly and enjoyably consumed within a short space of time.

From everyone at Alltraders, we congratulate you, BJ!

Security is always an important issue when you have a website on the internet. Whether it is keeping your website up to date with Joomla’s security patches or making sure your website has the correct file permissions.

One very simple but important way of keeping your site secure is by removing key distinguishable elements that make the website recognisable to the public as being powered by a particular content management system.

Removing the generator meta tag in Joomla’s code is one such part of this process. I recently wrote up a DIY article on how to remove this meta tag with possible security issues. Hop over to my blog over at hotshotdeveloper.com to find out how.

Not too long ago, I wrote an article discussing the benefits of spending a little for several plugins that slam into the JCE (Joomla! Content Editor).

'Linking to articles/sections/categories through the [TinyMCE] editor was the equivalent of slowly scrapping your face against a brick wall – it felt like a painful, pointless exercise.'

That opinion still stands - if you are looking for the much needed extended capabilities of image, caption, video, Flash and file management in JCE, then look no further - Spend around AU $15 for the JCE and get a lot of bang for buck. If you are still using TinyMCE however (the standard WYSIWYG editor), then start off by downloading JCE for free. This is one upgrade you will not regret in the slightest.

The next Joomla User Group Adelaide hosted at Alltraders will be on the 19th of April from 6pm.

Since the Sydney group is talking about Drupal, we think good discussion point for this month's meeting is a recent review of open source content management systems, which caused Joomla co-founder Brian Teeman to tweet last night,

"i'm going to write a review comparing win3.1 with latest version of osx - doh not that stupid but this guy is http://tinyurl.com/3ptrtpo"
- Brian Teeman

Do have a read of the article - we hope like us, you find it amusing and a source of new questions.
