After many years at our home in Albert Park, in mid to late November 2013, Alltraders will be shifting to a new location: 1 Wemyss Avenue, Hawthorn 5062.  Our phone numbers and email addresses will remain the same, so you can still contact us through those regular channels.

The new Alltraders office is just down the block from the corner of Belair and Grange Roads (opposite Caffe Buongiorno, and behind the Hungry Jack's restaurant).

We hope this relocation will better cater for our current clients not only in convenience of location, but also in travel times. A round trip from the City centre / Victoria Square will average around twenty minutes quicker by car, with our new location in Hawthorn being only 12 minutes away via Unley/Belair road (this compares to around 21 mins for our Albert Park address).

Soon it'll be bye bye Albert Park! We'll miss you!

Joomla critical security update 2.5.14

There is a critical update required for websites running Joomla! from versions 2.5.0 to 2.5.13.

If your website is powered by one of these versions of Joomla, a vunerability has been found in which a user can upload any filetype, including files that compromise your website! If you are unsure about what version of Joomla you have, please contact us and we'll let you know if your website is affected.

For those users with an Alltraders Maintenance Plan, your website will be automatically updated.

If not on one of our maintenance plans, we can upgrade your version of Joomla to the latest secure version, 2.5.14, which has fixed this flaw.

One of the questions I often get asked as the Search Engine Optimisation specialist at Alltraders, is what can we do with a client's additional domains relating to their business, although they only have one website. For example, you may have a main website, and to try and gain some additional Google ranking, have bought some different domains containing your target keywords.

How can we best utilise these domains to improve our business's Google ranking?

The thing to keep in mind, is that techniques that may have worked only a few years ago may not work these days, and this holds especially true for Search Engine Optimisation.

Security updates for Joomla 1.5 ceased in April 2012. There will be no reports about new security holes in Joomla 1.5 by Joomla, but this does not mean that it remains a fully secure system.

If a security vulnerability is found in your Joomla 1.5 website, not only will these vulnerabilities not be reported officially, but Joomla will also not be releasing any security patches. The official word from Joomla is as follows:

Support for Joomla 1.5 ended in April of 2012 and we continued to support it unofficially until the end of 2012 for medium to high priority security issues.

Does that mean your 1.5 site will suddenly stop working? No, your site will continue to work as it always has. However, Joomla’s developers will not be releasing new versions for Joomla 1.5, so you won’t be getting bug fixes or security fixes. For this reason, it’s recommended to migrate from 1.5.- Joomla Announcements

In the interests of privacy, information security and keeping your website online 24/7, your safest bet is to call us and request a quote to upgrade.

Is my website affected?

If you have been an Alltraders client prior to 2012, or you have a Joomla website created prior to 2012 and you are unaware of any applied major updates, your website is most likely at risk.

If unsure of your website version and if this affects you, call us and we'll confirm this for you.

Attacking and breaking into websites

Since the start of the year, Alltraders has been flat-stick with work from new and existing clients alike. What has unusually stood out during this time period has been number of Content Management System websites (Joomla and Wordpress) which had been compromised by either groups or individuals looking to unleash mischief on any target they can access. The annoying part of these attacks, is that many could have been prevented through simple maintenance and updates.

Like with a car requiring frequent servicing, websites require updates to their software to ensure that all publicly aware exploits and general nasties are either repaired or removed and unused elements are removed.

The below 5 areas are essential in making a website as hard to access as possible to malicious use. If you do not know how to do these, I would recommend giving us a call to ensure they have been deployed to your Joomla! website.

Joomla 3.0 has been released to the masses from the confines of it's beta built cell.. How is it in the wild? How does it compare to previous versions? What can 2013 bring with Joomla now being the only CMS with mobile compatibility straight out of the box?

The next Joomla User Group Adelaide hopes to answer these questions and more, and will be held on Tuesday the 12th of February, 2013 at Alltraders from 6pm.

Hi Everyone,

2012 has been a year full of exciting new projects and changes for us here at Alltraders, as well as a year of some fantastic successes which now lay behind us.

We would like to extend a massive thank you to all of our customers new, current and continuing for the time you have allowed us to share in developing your businesses online.

A few customers I would like to personally thank and mention in particular however are The Grind, OxfamFair and Mercato. We had a lot of fun building these websites, and could not be happier with the outcome.

Oxfam Mercato Grind

In case you have been wondering, like many businesses, Alltraders will be shutting down over the Christmas break. We close on the 24th of December and return to work most likely sunburnt on the 7th of January.

If you need urgent assistance during this time regarding hosting, email or website support, please email webdev@alltraders.com and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you all once again for yet another fantastic year. We can't wait to see what 2013 brings!

The next Joomla User Group Adelaide meeting will be held on Tuesday the 9th of October 2012 from 6pm at PROBIZ. As usual there'll be a general open discussion, as well as a look at the exciting new Joomla 3.0.

We will have a short list of topics to cover, but why not let us know of any areas you would like discussed so we can add to the agenda. Last meeting was a great one for newbies, and August from Alltraders was kept busy all meeting answering good questions.

Please contact Greg Willson to notify of your intentions to make the meeting next Tuesday so he can set up correctly, and please bring $5 to cover pizza costs.
